JULY ’11

Marldon Apple Pie Fair (July 30th)

A Marldon farmer, George Hill, used to take his apples to St Marychurch in panniers on a donkey in the 19th century. Later he became famous for making a big apple pie and paraded it around in a donkey cart before it was eaten.
Marldon Apple Pie day was revived in 1958 to raise funds for the village hall. It has a procession through the village led by a donkey cart and ends with festivities on the village field.

This traditional event has all the fun of the fair and we shall be there with our Bays Bar serving our real ales, ciders, wine and soft drinks! There will also be a carnival procession, donkeys to ride, a craft marque, demonstrations, dogs shows, a hog roast, a fair princess and much more.
